Places to visit in the Netherlands

Amsterdam, the capital of the Netherlands is renowned for being beautiful and the best way to explore the city is by bike. Cycling here is a way of life so join the locals and get active while seeing the many sights. Below are the places that you really can't miss if you come and visit the Netherlands:

In the Summer be sure to check out Vondelpark which is the largest park in Amsterdam. Here you'll find a mix of locals and tourists enjoying the Sun and there are often free concerts given in the bandstand. There are plenty of playgrounds to keep children entertained and the winding footpaths, footbridges, ponds and gardens are beautiful.

Zaanse schans

This residential area is the perfect place for long walks and cycle trips. On your route you'll find gorgeous colourful windmills and houses, the Catharina Hoeve Cheese Farm, the warehouse where clogs are made and beautiful meadows.

Hoge veluwe

This National Park is the perfect places to see different landscapes with a wide range of animals and plants. Spend the day looking for the deer, wild boars, badgers and foxes. There is a 4.1KM walking route which takes you past some of the park's highlights such as the Franse Berg and the Kröller-Müller Museum which houses art from Van Gogh, Pablo Picasso and Piet Mondriaan. Make sure to also check out the amazing sculpture garden which has over 160 sculptures.

Amsterdamse waterleidingduinen

The Amsterdamse waterleidingduinen is another Nature Reserve which is about 30 minutes drive from Amsterdam. Stroll through the green dunes or along the beach. Here you can spot deer, foxes, rabbits as well as thousands of water birds.

Home to the Van Gogh museum, the Stedelijk Museum of Modern Art and the Rijksmuseum. Not only is the Museumplein perfect for art lovers it also has plenty going on for everyone else...the square is host to markets and open air exhibitions. In the Winter the square turns into a giant outdoor ice skating rink.

NEMO is a science museum which offers a range of scientific experiences, tests and games for both adults and children. Be sure to check out 'Energetica' where you can learn about how renewable energy works.

Anne Frank House

Visit the Anne Frank House where Anne Frank and her family hid from the Nazis during World War II. It has now been converted into a museum which shows historic documents, photographs and original objects that belonged to the family. The back of the house has been preserved to give an idea what life would have been like during this time.

You can't visit Amsterdam without coming to the Bloemenmarkt; the only floating flower market in the world! Here you'll find floating barges selling colorful tulips and other flowers.

If you’re planning to visit the Netherlands during the spring it is very advisable to visit the Keukenhof in Lisse which is around 30 minutes by car or bus from Amsterdam. This gigantic flower garden has over 7 million flowers with over 800 different types of tulips.

On the opposite side of the road is Keukenhof castle which has over 200 acres of woodland, meadows and landscaped gardens which are beautiful to walk through.

Also in Lisse you can see the famous Bloemencorso flower parade, but only if you're visiting between the 20th and 23rd April. From the 20th-22nd the floats are decorated with thousands of tulips, daffodils and hyacinths in the Klinkenberghal which you can view for € 5.00 per adult and € 2.00 per child.

On the 23rd the floats begin their tour in Noordwijk and travel the entire Bollenstreek to Haarlem. This really is an amazing thing to watch so if you're flexible on dates to visit The Netherlands then be sure to come for this time!
