Top 5 activities to do in the Three Valleys this Summer

There’s more to the Alps than skiing, and when the snow melts, the picturesque mountaintops of the Alps are a sight to behold. If you’re a sports-lover, the mountains have just as much to offer in summer as they do in winter!

From hiking to water sports, the Three Valleys have an exciting selection of activities on offer that the whole family can enjoy.

Here are our top five activities to do in the Three Valleys this summer

Hiking

Love exploring?

Be it the Aiguille des Glaciers or the Tarentaise valley, the Vanoise national park offers 600km of trails of varying difficulty. Anyone can feast their eyes on a variety of Alpine areas, such as forests, mountain lakes and passes.

You might just find yourself face to face with the wildlife, such as marmots or the Alpine ibex.

Hiking is an activity all the family can enjoy! Regardless of your age or ability level, you’ll find a trail for you. Mountain guides can be hired on request.

One piece of advice, ensure you’re wearing the correct summer walking clothes!

Parc Olympique

Built for the 1992 Winter Olympics, the Olympic Centre offers an indoor fitness centre, as well as ice skating and climbing walls. The swimming facilities offer a 25m indoor swimming pool, slides and pools for children. All of which are open seven days a week!

Complete with a spa, you’ll get to unwind in the saunas and steam rooms. Highly qualified therapists are available for beauty treatments and massages. This is perfect for anyone who needs a chance to unwind!

Mountain Biking

With the snow now gone, it’s time to ditch the skis for wheels. With mountain descents to suit all abilities, there’s plenty of fun to be had with Meribel alone boasting over 100km of trails.

In Courchevel, groups and individuals will find all the necessary gear, including bike rentals and routes provided by the region’s specialist mountain biking company VTT3 Vallees

Guided outings for families are held every Wednesday in Pralognan-la-Venoise, with a variety of trails and itineraries that let you take in the scenery at full speed.

Water Sports

Whether it’s canoeing or white-water rafting, water sports are one of the most popular activities to try during the summer. White-water rafting is a uniquely thrilling activity. Feel the rush as you descend the river in an inflatable raft at rapid speed!

For something a little less breakneck, kayaking is another exciting activity that’s perfect for summer. The whole family will find themselves entertained by the selection of water sports in the Three Valleys!

Rock Climbing

If you’ve got a taste for adrenaline, don’t miss out on rock climbing in the Alps this summer! Meribel in particular is great for rock climbing! The careful attention of a trained guide can literally ‘show you the ropes’!

For those who fancy a less daunting activity, via ferrata is a more accessible way to take on the mountains! Anyone above the age of eight can enjoy this exciting and daring activity.
